A burn is a type of injury to skin, or other tissues, caused by heat, cold, electricity, chemicals, friction, or radiation. Most burns are due to heat from hot liquids, solids, or fire. Burns that affect only the superficial skin layers are known as superficial or first-degree burns. They appear red without blisters and pain typically lasts around three days.When the injury extends into some of the underlying skin layer, it is a partial-thickness or second-degree burn. Blisters are frequently present and they are often very painful.


Classification of Burns

Burns are being classified in to three different category based on the intensity and severity of the burn.

•First degree Burn

•Second degree burn

•Third degree burn

•Fourth degree burn


• Redness

• Minor inflammation, or swelling

• Pain

• Dry peeling skin occurs as the burn heals


First-degree burn cause minimal skin damage. They are also called superficial burns because they affect the outermost layer of skin. Second-degree burns are more serious because the damage extends beyond the top layer of skin. This type burn causes the skin to blister and become extremely red and sore. Third-degree burns are the most severe. They cause the most damage, extending through every layer of skin. Fourth degree burns also has similar damage as that of third degree burns but the burns extend till tendons and ligament as well.

Depending on the intensity and the degree of the burn their exist different treatment. For the first and second degree burns adequate physical treatment is sufficient and is also easy to handle .Degree of burns more than the second degree the patients may require:
